Is Networking Becoming Clouded?

I believe I have earned the right to have an opinion on this given I have been networking in one way or another for the benefit of business growth for the best part of 25 years.  I have experienced all kinds of networking environments and in the main have thoroughly enjoyed it but of late I just feel its becoming tiresome. At first I thought it was just me, that fact that I had been doing it for so long I had just burnt out and ran out of interesting things to say. Truth is, I think its networking itself that is getting tired!  Almost like it’s following the route of many other products and services gone by; one becomes successful  and then there is a flurry of ‘jumping on the waggon’ and with that comes a flood of less than useful events/online networks that are poorly managed, ill attended and uncoordinated that just make it harder for the successful ones to flourish. I don’t doubt that in time only the strongest will survive, thank goodness, but until then I am sure I am not the only one who is becoming very selective with which on and offline networking channels to adopt. I would be very interested to hear your comments, although I warn you I wont be sharing any rude ones :)

By the way – this is no reflection on the business growth show on wednesday or the fact that I was unable to attend TBN this month but it just made me realise when I looked at my diary just how many events there are in a month without mentioning the online/social networking opportunities!

Getting social for all the right reasons.

Did you know the computer company Dell announced it made £6.5 million US dollars in revenues from their involvement with Twitter.

Dell uses Twitter to “listen and learn” from their customers directly. The number of customers following Dell online has increased considerably, with “11,844” people following them on Twitter @DellOutLet.

Those “11,844” customers receive special discounted offers exclusively as a reward for following the company on Twitter. This is a clear indication that Twitter and other social media networking sites are a very powerful marketing tool.
